The big day February 2, 2024, Apple has welcomed all the people to the world of Spatial Computing and Mixed Reality. The Apple Vision Pro which is a mixed-reality headset developed by Apple. Before Jumping into the Apple Vision Pro, why don’t we understand what Mixed Reality is and how it is relevant in the current scenario?
Mixed Reality: An Overview
The MR or Mixed Reality is an advanced Technology which blends the digital and physical world together and creates an interactive and enhancing experience. The use of Mixed Reality (MR) allows an active interaction between the two, in contrast with Augmented Reality (AR) or Virtual Reality (VR), which immerse individuals into a fully digital environment. This technology paves the way for improvement in all sectors such as Education, Healthcare and Entertainment. This technology enhances human experiences and improves their problem-solving skills and capabilities which helps them to make the concept easier. Therefore, it is considered a revolutionary innovation.
The Wait-and-See Approach
The Apple Vision Pro is a mixed reality wearable headset computer which is considered on years of engineering and apple describes it as a Wait-and-see Approach when their competitors dived into the VR/AR world ahead of time. The CEO Tim Cook quoted “It’s the first product you look through, and not at and “You can see, hear, and act with digital content just like it’s in your physical space. You’re no longer limited by a display.” The Apple Vision pro will introduce and takes the customers to a whole new world of Spatial Computing. The price ranges from $3,499 and as far as the technology and experience it provides, it is not overpriced. Like most of their products… (; )).
The Marvellous Architecture
Apple Vision Pro is an example of advanced technology and the craftsmanship. This device incorporates exceptional engineering by combining cutting-edge technologies. The Hardware and Software components are engineered in such a way that it delivers exceptional experience of Mixed Reality.
The Hardware is set up with an Advanced processing Custom-made Silicon Chipset, which is the core for providing seamless MR experiences. The display is crafted with a high-resolution micro-OLED display for an excellent colour gradient and clarity. For mapping the accuracy of the Spatial environment, a LiDAR sensor along with an Accelerometer and Gyroscopes are implemented. The Lens are optimized for a clear and immersive visual.
The Software runs on a custom OS namely Vision OS for the better MR immersive experiences and the advanced and hard algorithm and programming languages are used to map the objects in real-time. The user interface is setup in such a way to support Spatial computing and intuitive controls and for easy navigation gestures. The ARKit tool is added for creating MR applications and advanced encryption and authentication methods are used for privacy and protect it from breaches and cyberattacks.
Two Sides of the Same Coin – The Flipside
Unlike every technology, they have some limitations; The Apple Vision Pro also owns some for it. The cost is one of the concerning parts, but it is obvious that these technologies have their own cost, but it results in limiting the accessibility to the device. The Battery is reported to have some drainage and heating issues. The phase of adaptation to this technology is quite concerning due to unfamiliarity. The Vision Pro has been reported some issues on compatibility issues on some devices except Apple. The main and most concerning challenge is Privacy as these devices collect data from Cameras, Sensors, and Web Mapping. These are some of the challenges faced by Apple Vision Pro.
My Personal Experience
In my opinion, the experience was like moving one step closer to the future. It’s my first time I am experiencing the spacial computing except watching it from the Iron Man movie. The design was well-crafted and wearing it was comfortable. The device gave me an immersive and exceptional experience which I can’t forget. The device worked seamlessly with my Apple Ecosystem and allowed me to go outside my physical world and opened ways for educational and entertainment for me. One thing that didn’t worked well with me was the floating keyboard has some glitches and the addiction towards the product. Rather than this I would say this is going to change the future of the tech world.
